of live T.V. broadcast over all of Japan on 31 March,1983 on Nippon T.V.
network.
W: female commentator
M: male commentator
Y: Uri or "Yuri" Geller
W: ....... he is continuing his study to know whether human beings have
other means to access information besides the five senses.
M: Many people have gathered at this studio. They all look tense with
anticipation. The most nervous person at this moment might be Yuri Geller
himself. He has been struggling under the pressure.
W: Right.
M: We saw him nine years ago. I wonder what he looks like now. Let's call
Yuri at the Tokyo Tower.
M: This is Miki at the Tokyo Tower.... How is everything there?
W: I am Marie Christine.
W: Good evening, my name is Miwa Tokaki.
W: This is Yuri Geller. Many boys and girls are around us. As you saw the
video, there was such a big sensation when we invited him nine years ago.
Watch closely what is going to happen shortly. Yuri, please explain what
you are going to do.
Y: Ok, eh..All over Japan, tonight,as a matter of fact in a few
minutes, something amazing and fenomenal will happen maybe in your own
hands or something very unusual in your house. So stay with us and be
with open mind. Believe tonight. This one and half hour, BELIEVE in what
you are about to see.
(soundfile)
W: (translation into Japanese) Are you ready? The studio, please.
M: It's exiting. Let's see how all the spectators are.
W: Yes, let's. How is everybody in Hokkaido, Mr.Katsuya and miss
Utsunomiya?
W: Good evening. We are standing at the foot of the TV tower on the main
street. As Yuri is sending messages from Tokyo Tower, about fifty young
people are waiting at the same TV tower.
W: People have brought many things, broken watches, spoons and forks.
There is a cute little girl waiting here too. (to the girl):you have a
wonderful clock. How did you get it?
girl: This is my grandfather's precious clock. i have brought it
secretly..
W: Ah, so desu ka...
M: (at the studio) I want you to tell us ,as soon as you find any
changes.
M: Clocks.... Miss Mie Nakao is at Roppongi, Tokyo
W: Mie-san, how is everything there?
W: This is Roppongi, Tokyo. We are in front of the Rowa building, 1040
meters away from the Tokyo Tower. Quite a number of people are waiting
here to eyewitness the super-natural phenomena to be shown by Yuri
Geller.
W: Right. People have brought spoons and other things from home. Sorry ,
I'm not singing today.. We have our broken records..no, broken watches.
M: Broken watches all ready for the occasion.
W: you have to have your brain fixed today...
M: As this is the closests telecasting spot from the Tokyo Tower, we are
looking forward to seeing the remarkable phenomena here.
(studio)
W: They seem to be fighting.
M:
As a matter of fact this program is on, LIVE both on radio and on TV. The
TV is by Nippon TV and the radio by Radio Nippon.
W: Mie is commentator for the TV and Mitsuo for the radio.
M: Let us turn to Denenchofu, Tokyo
W: Hi! This is Mr.Jerry Fujio's house in Denenchofu. We have chosen his
family as representative of all other Japanese families. Jerry-san, do
you believe in Yuri's superpower?
Jerry: The instant I heard his voice, my palms started to sweat.
W: Oh, you are sweating so much on your forehead ,too.
Jerry: Yes, I believe him.
W: Marvellous that he has such a power, like making people sweat.
Jerry: Of that I am not so sure.
W: How about you, Tomoko-san?
W: At first I did not believe. But when I heard that my friend,
Mrs.Uehara, could bend the spoon, I started to believe.
W: That was what people think here...
W: Something is happening at the Fujio residence..
(break in)
M: Tokumitsu's friend in Osaka!(on the line)
W: Mr.Kobayashi and Mr.Harunosuke of Yomiuri TV. How's everything there?
M: Good evening. We are at the green square in the Third building in
front of Osaka Station.
M: Good evening. I am Harunosuke Katsura. There are about fifty people
here with broken watches, spoons and other things. Look! Here is a man
with a golf club! He will try to bend it!
M: Quite a few people are here in spite of the rain. i have my spoons
ready.
M: I have a fork.
M: We are all filled with anticipation. Tokyo please.
(studio)
M: People have assembled at the Korakuen Stadium for the musical
event,especially planned for the occasion.
W: Mr.Matsunaga at KORAKUEN
M: This is the Korakuen Staduim at Suidobashi, Tokyo.Look! There are
about six thousand spectators here, two thousand in the lawn and four
thousand in the stand. They are expecting to see Tamori (a noted talent)
exercising his super powers to compete with Yuri Geller. With cheers,
here comes Tamori. Tamori-san, can you exercise your super power.
M: No, nonsense. I have no super power at all. I want to cultivate it,
though. Its only in the Korakuen Staduim that is showing such a cheerful
excitement. It sounds like an uproar of a festival.
M: We have six thousand eye-witnesses, here, from the Korakuen Stadium.
(studio)
W: Such a large number of people...It looks cold out there.
M: So many people all over the country, including you, in front of your
TV set, are looking forward to seeing what Yuri is going to do. In case
we notice something supernatural, what should we do?
W: Mr. Miki at Tokyo Tower will tell you about it.
(Tokyo Tower)
Y: Now,all of the people, all of them, in the Stadium, at home, in the
street, everybody that is listening in the house, please prepare all your
broken watches and clocks and hairdryers and erasermachines (rasors?)
that are broken, all of these broken watches and clocks and house
appliances, bring them to the television set and put them down on the
floor.
If you have keys, spoons, forks, anything of metal, golf clubs, anything,
also bring them to the television set, because I will try WITH YOUR
POWER, not only with MY power, try to bend some things in your homes.
Now if anything happens in your house, only if something happens, if a
spoon bends, or..the watches we'll do later, we'll begin with the
bending, call NTV and let us know what hjappens, but only if something
happened. If something did'nt happen, don't be disappointed, because it
doesn't happen to everyone.
Call NTV if anything bends or if anything unusual happens in the house,
like the lights go out, or a black and white TV turns into colour,
something like that.....
(translation into Japanese)
W: We have one hundred telephones in this studio ready for you to call.
If anything strange happens, please call us.
M: Our telephone number is 03-2631000 and the radio Nippon is 03-586 5900
W: As the lines are going to be overcrowded, we want to limit those who
can call. Those, who have odd telephone numbers can call us during the
first half of the program; those who have even numbers can call us during
the latter half.
(studio)Listen to the original Sound track
(mp3)
W: Then let us start the experiment. Mr. Miki at Tokyo Tower!
M: (say)Are you ready?
Y: I am ready
M: No, to the people
Y: Yes.
Y: Are you ready now? If you are ready, you have to HELP me and be
ready for the next fenomenal happening.
M: There are spoons in front of me. This cannot be bent. (Tries to bend).
No tricks whatever. This golf club, prepared by a real-estate man, cannot
be bent either.
Y: Now. First of all I must say that I am nervous, because this is not
a trick, it's not magic, so I don't know if things will work. So I beg
you people out there: people help me, all over Japan. I need your power
now, because it is a live show.
(translation)
Y: Do you know I will try something , that i never tried before
ever in my life.
(translation)
Y:
I will try... First, nothing here is mine; all these spoons.. look at
this spoon..the spoon is not prepared...it's a spoon... because some
people thing it's a trick, but it is not. Children, I want you to do like
this with your hands...Tell them to do like this and begin to BELIEVE
that something is going to bend or melt or..... say BEND!
(translation)
Meanwhile i will stroke the spoon--like last time, but now it takes me...
faster, because my power is stronger.
(translation)
Y: Do it with me.. BEND. BEND Stroke the golf (club). Yes,yes. Please
believe and give me time. You see, I am trying to bend also this spoon,
but it is not... Yes, yes. Oh oh yes , yes, more way. Something is
happening here. Help me, help me. Ah ah ah ah it's bending look, look
it's bending, yes. Hold it, hold it, hold it. Yes, yes, yes. Help me
children. Do it with me. Yes its becoming soft. Help me. Yes. Yes !!
(Many exited voices)
Y: Tell them to put their finger where my finger is. Yes look! oh--- Yes,
look it's breaking, it's breaking it's breaking. Put your fingers more---
Yes leave it, leave it, leave. Look , look look! More more more, say
BEND.
W: Look! Iron powder is falling
Y: Yes, more, more, more. Yes its breaking, and it's soft- more- look
look look! AH! (the end of the golfclub falls on the floor) You touch it,
it's cold. Cold! Now children, look at your spoon and do the same. Do the
same to your spoons!( The spoons bend all out of shape) And also her fork
bent, you see?
M: Osaka calling!
W: What happened, Harunosuke-san?
M: A spoon is bent. You saw it, didn't you?
W: marvellous!
M: Have you ever bent a spoon before? No? Weird, heh?
W: Horunosuke-san, is there anybody else, who....?
W: is there anybody else?
~o,
for the moment only one.
W: Matsunaga-san at Korakuen . Is there any change?
M: I see one at this moment, a boy in the front row. What did you feel?
He seems to have felt an electric shock. You see? it's bent!
W: We can see it!
M: There seem to be some others. i'll call you later from the Korakuen
Stadium.
W: Please call
M: How about in Sapporo?
W: We have seen so much change at Korakuen. How about those at the
studio? Is there anybody who has noticed any change?
M: Has a spoon been bent?
W: It seems that nobody has succeeded at the studio probably because
people watching T.V. too earnestly.
W: Still, the phones have been ringing incessantly. How about you,
watching T.V.? Chika-chan, Is yours bent?
W: This was bent before the experiment.
W: Is that right. Can you find anybody around you who succeeded?
W. You don't have enough super power.
M: Kobayashi-san, will you ask the doctors?
M: Dr. Enami, what do you think of the experiment?
M: Physically it's impossible. I hadn't believed a year ago. But when I
saw the experiment done by Mr. Tsuruta, one of the most psychic people in
Japan, I couldn't help believing. So personally I believe it now.
M: Are you surprised?
M: Yes, very much.
W: He didn't believe a year ago! Physically imp.....
M: How about psychologically?
M: I had the impression that he has become more powerful than when he
came to Japan last. I want to study him to know his psychological
background.
M: Did anything happen at Korakuen?
W: Yes, quite a few people have succeeded in bending metals. Doctor, the
spoons will not bend unless we believe they will, will it?
M: Right. The first step is to get rid of your psychological suppression,
i.e. preconception that it is impossible. After that...... we should melt
into the spoon to wish that it would bend.
W: I see. Kobayashi-san, the doctor says that we should melt into the
spoon.
M: Miko's spoon is bent.
W: Mine is bent, too.
W: Look! It's bent! In front of my very eyes!!
M: Dr. Erdon Bird has experimented with Yuri using nitinol. What is
nitinol?
Dr.Erdon Bird: Nitinol is a Nickel/Titanium alloy that is developed by
the Naval Forces Weapons Center (sic). It has a memory that is placed at
a specific temperature...
Nitinol can be deformed.... but when it is taken back to that certain
temperature, it will go back to the shape (it was meant to have). This
piece was made to be straight at a 100 degrees celcius. (Japanese
translations partially drowns out original english)
W: Now what was the experiment you were doing with Uri Geller, using the
nitinol?
Dr.Bird: In August 1973 I held a piece of nitinol, which's memory was
made to be straight at 140 degrees C; he gently stroked it and the memory
altered in such a way, that it is no longer straight. (Shows photograph:)
This is an enlargement.
W: That means, that Yuri Geller can not only erase the memory of the
metal, but also alter the memory.(sic) is that possible? What do you
find?
Dr.Bird: Well, this normally cannot occur....(garbled with Japanese
translation)
Yuri Geller:
O.K.!
Please
say to the people that nothing happened (to): don't be disappointed. It
doesn't happen to everyone. And also, the famous actor....are you sure
that he bent the spoon with his mind? Because not every...very few people
can do it like I do it. But there is a moment that you do like this, like
this (shows) and it becomes soft without heat and then it's easy to bend.
(translation)
W: look! Unbelievable! It's all bent!
W: Jerry-san, it can not be true, can it?
M: It is true!! I can hardly believe it myself.
W: He says his heart is pounding.
M: It is so unbelievable.
W: How did you fee?
JERRY: The moment I thought that it would (bend), it went all the way,
like this.
W: Jerry-san has told that the moment he thought it would, the spoon was
actually bent.
M: Yuri is going to do the experiment of fixing the broken watches.
W: Jerry-san,are you sure you are not bending the spoon by force?
J: No, on the contrary. When I touch it lightly, it bends.
W: Are you positive you are not pushing it strongly?
J: Now, look.i try to push it by force.
W: Do it strongly.
J: When I push it strongly, it doen't work
W: Really? Is concentration necessary?
W: It will bend when you think it will from the bottom of your heart.
Isn't that right?
J: Now it's coming...! No, it's gone.
W: His power of concentration seems to have weakened.
J: It was true, though.
W: He looked as if he was bending the spoon by force, but it was actually
bent by some super-natural power.
M: Next, Yuri will do the new experiment. Takami-san, have you brought
the watches ready for the experiment?
W: Ready.
M: Will they really start moving?
W: Do you have watches of your own?
M: Let's turn to the Tokyo Tower.
W: Mr.Miki at the Tokyo Tower, are you ready?
M: Yuri has been watching the monitor TV here. He says that Jerry touches
the spoon too strongly. He wants to notify him that spoons will bend by
just feeling gently. This golf club was broken by Yuri a little while
ago. Marie saw the powder sprinkling from the broken shaft.
W: I saw the powder fall, as the golf club was against the light.
W: I saw it, too.
M: He had a cut in his finger from the broken shaft. He says it hurts a
little, but he will be allright.
Y: Now the watches, now the clocks. so, all the people with the
watches and the clocks, before we do this, although your watches are
broken, please wind them up. OK. Now. Unfortunately I don't have any
watches and clocks and broken house appliances here.
If you people at home, if you have broken hairdryers or broken watches I
want you to hold them in your hand and... let's shout: When I say one,
two,..three , I want you to shout the word "work!" But also you
people here help me. Because somebody told me that this watch has not
worked for many, many years and these are all broken (pointing at a table
full of displayed watches, clocks and assorted junk). Allright. Now.
Let's go all of us together. One.. two..three..:Work!
Ok everyone. When I say work, everyone has to shout.
One, two, three..Work!
Again.
One..two..three, Work!
Again. ..No. You see,I..,I have to be honest. If it doesn't work, it
doesn't work.
Ok, let me put this in the electricity to see what happened.
Give me the watch ,please.
Please believe.
One, two, three, WORK!
Again. no. Let's see. YES,THIS IS WORKING! Yes,yes, yes, yes.
This watch is ticking.
(interruption from Roppongi)
Y: Look, look,LOOK, it just started ticking, you see?
Again for this one. Believe that your power...
One, two, three..Work! Again: One,two..three..Work!
Yes, it's working! It's working. It's fixed.
Please tell the people that this power we all have. You only have to
believe.
Now all the people, all over Japan, check the watches, put them to your
ears. If your watches started ticking, call NTV. Look, the watch is
ticking. Look at the second hand... You see, it's started. Look at that,
it's moving... Yes this one is also working.. This is such an old clock,
that..and it's ticking.
(Roppongi breaking in)
M: This is Roppongi. The second hand of this watch has started to move.
Oh, it was moving a little ago..
W: Has it stopped?
Y:
M: This is Tokyo Tower. A watch has started to move now.
Y:
W: It has started to move! it's moving!
Y:
M: Thank you for everyone
W: Mr.Miki, while Mrs.Otani was watching Yuri, her watch started to move
all of a sudden. Can you see it? There is no second hand, but you can
hear it tick. How long had it been broken?
W: It had been broken since three years ago. While I was watching Qyiri's
experiment with the spoon, but watch started ticking all of a sudden; but
I did not succeed in the soon-bending.
W: Splendid! Mrs. Otani, what do you think?
M: It has been running foir five minutes.
(the camera gives different scenes)
W: Doctors' watches are fixed one by one... Mr.Kobayashi, it is fantastic
isn't it? Are you surprised,too?
M: It is bent! It is bent at last!
M: This clock moves and stops alternatively.
W: How did you feel when you bent the spoon?
W: It was twisted first. I felt warm.
W: People have been doing their best. Oh! Oh! Here it comes! He has
succeeded at last. The watch is also fixed.
W: I see another watch moving
W: See the second hand moving.
M: He could fix three watches at Roppongi.
W: Many doubted it, but quite a lot of broken watches seem to have been
fixed.
(studio)
M: Watches at the studio have started to move one by one.
Yuri came to Japan on the 24th of this month. On the 27th, he visited the
Technical information Centre of Tokai University at Yoyogi, Tokyo.
W: I accompanied him and saw him experiment wether he could input or
output the pictures of the computer screen. He had never done that
before. It turned out to be a pretty hard experiment. Here is the record.
(shows)
M: On the 27th of March, Yuri underwent a new experiment, never done
before in history. Before the experiment, he was thoroughly examined by
Prof. Toshibumi Sakata, to make sure that he had no metals of any kind
with him. Two pictures were on the computer tape and he was going to work
on them, using his power. If you see any change on these two pictures,
the experiment is a success. As it was his first experiment, you cannot
expect too much. On the first day he tried for three hours in vain.
On the 29th, he tried the second time. The computer, the product of the
modern scientific technology, didn't seem to accept a bit of his psychic
power. With augmenting irritation, he seemed to concentrate all his
power. He began to murmur that something would happen in a couple of
minutes. When we almost gave up after three hours trial, we noticed a
strange phenomena.....
Yuri: Aahh! Put -in (?)
I'm doing my best, yoo yan, I'm doing my best,..(softly) don't...
Y: I don't know.
(pause)
Y: M-m-m
Now! -- now,-- the next. Now--- Now!
Look at the monitors, ok. The coming 2,3 minutes must happen something.
How many-- about-- Please! Now!
Now! (mutters in Hebrew: ...nagwalom) NOW!|
NOW!!!
M: it has stopped!
M: You did it! (American voice)
Y: What??
M: Yes!
Y: No!!
Y: Bigo! I DID IT. OH|
{uncontrolled laughter by the same unidentified voice)
AH! Ha ha ha ha ha ha! You did it!... Yes!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! {Uncontrolled laughter, cut off by Japanese
commentator)
M: The picture was supposed to come out from above, but it stopped on the
way. At last Yuri has succeeded in making the machine stop.
W: This is Dr. Sakata of the Technological Information Center of Tokai
University who conducted an experiment with Yuri. Dr. Sakata, did you
notice anything during the experiment?
M: He tried hard for a long time. So long that we all couldn't help
wishing for his success at the end. At close to the end, the computer's
signal stopped suddenly. This can happen for various reasons for sure,
but when I think that happened no other time but while he was using his
power, it may be allowed to think that it was his power that stopped the
machine. The computer stops when it receives the stop signal.
W: Can you stop the computer only by saying stop? Do you think that his
super power could do that?
M: I don't know what super power really means, but I don't think it's
impossible. At least the percentage may be extremely low.
W: You must be surprised then.
M: I was rather pleased than surprised.
M: Ask Dr. Edwin Brit his impression, please.
Interviewer-- What happen in Tokai University?
Dr. Edwin B: As an expert witness I consider what happened in Tokai
University to be a well controlled Scientific experiment.
To my opinion, the chances are almost zero that anything else occured
except uh- psychic power to made the tape stop at precisely the moment
that it did.
M: Thank you. The next experiment is of telepathy.
W: Mr. Miki, Tokyo Tower!
M: Here I am. I want to tell you something. I have my brand new suits on
today. A button of it melted and fell off all of a sudden.
W: It's really melt! Kikko-san, do you believe it?
M: Frankly I had not been sure of Yuri's power, but this I should admit!
W: Look at this button. It's all molten.
Y: It melted like spoon. And I didn't even touch the button.
Y: You ask him; did this happen to you in your life? Never!
M: At the moment that the golf-shaft is broken, it happened!
Y: Fantastic. This is very important for me to hear.
M: Thank you. But you owe me one button.
Y: Ha ha ha.
M: So strange that I almost feel sick.
M: Let's turn to the experiment of the telepathy, next.
W: A litlle before we started this program, we drew pictures in the room
where nobody could enter. Mio drew one while I drew two. believe me we
have never shown them to anybody else. I don't even know what Mio's
picture is like.
W: I don't know what Mari's picture is like either.
W: Yuri is going to guess what they look like.
Girl: So, can you--
Y: Ok. Wait-- allright. Eh.
Girl: I drew two pictures.
Y: You did. Allright , now. This is very much pressure for me, because
this is very precise. And I have to get it so give me a little time. And
the most important thing I want to stress is that this is not a trick.
You didn't tell me what you draw, I don't think you told anyone what you
draw. So please people, believe that if I will succeed, it's real
telepathy. Begin to draw now. You do two drawings?
g: Yes.
Y: Concentrate... Don't give me any clue. Which drawing is more
difficult in your opinion, the first or the second.
G: The second one.
Y: So start concentrating on the second one.
Don't close your eyes. Look at me and begin..to draw..the drawing... in
your mind... without moving your head or your eyes.
JUST STARE AT ME|
Y: Again. Draw it in slow motion in your head.
Y: Again.(sigh) Just stare at me, like a hawk. Just stare at me
and draw the drawing in your mind. Yes.. Again. One more time. can you
come really close to me, please?
M: Can we change?
Y: Yes, please. Please.
Y: Come close.
Stare at me!
Y: Ah. You know, it's a difficult one.
again.
Y: Well. I will draw, what I felt. It can only be one thing, what I
felt. I do not feel a 100% that it is that, but I will draw it.
One more time..
I will show it to the camera.. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but it is
something like a flower..
M: Mari takes out her drawing. Nobody, but herself, has ever seen it.
W: What! ..So strange!
Y: That is what I got.
M: It almost looks the same! Just a tiny, tiny difference!
W: Mr. Miki! Believe me, while I stayed with him, I felt a kind of energy
coming through my head.
M: She felt something....
Mari:
I drew the flower in my mind. While I was drawing, I noticed, that his
head was moving along with my mind. Very astonishing!
M: Let's turn back to the studio.
(Studio)
W: Dr.Aoki has been studying whether people have some other means to
perceive, beside our five senses. What do you think, Sir.
DR.Aoki: Yuri's telepathy was tested in l974 by the scientists of
Standford Research Institute in California. The report was in
"Nature", the science magazine, in l974. I believe his power.
People may think that the telepathy is gifted to a very special person
like Yuri, but it is not true.
My two years close study shows that almost every one can draw a picture
by telepathy just as Yuri has done.
W: Mr. Kobayashi, he says that you can also draw a picture like
Yuri.
M: I don't know what I should say to that.

Note: Truly remarkable was the deafening silence of the
mainstream Japanese newspapers on this event. In spite of the countrywide
excitement, there was nothing on it in the papers the next morning. Nothing.
No mention of the Geller performance at all.
Except
this, mostly covering a pre-show press conference, but confirming what
happened during the show.
