Researching the local newpapers, I came on an interesting set of articles by Mr Mario Garcia, author of an unpublished book "The Meaning of the Caduceus" and founder of the Kundalini Society of the Philippines. With his permission I quote or paraphrase from his articles.

THE OCCULT SURGERY OF Bro. Lito Fausto.

The fame of this young, comparatively unknown healer from Negros is already spreading in the Cebu communities-after having been investigated by our local newspapers and radiostations and all those people who flock by the hundreds daily to his impoverished "clinic" in Sancianco St., either to be healed or to have their curiosities appeased by a bird's-eye view of his "bare-hand" operations.

Mario Garcia, a Cebuano writer on the Occult, distinguishes the rare abilities of this man from those of ordinary faith healers, spiritual healers, holistic healers, et al. by naming it "Occult Surgery" and he describes the operation as follows:

Lito Fausto first makes certain that one needs the operation. Then he begins his performance by letting his patient lie down on his operating table.

He then instructs the patient to begin praying. As he himself starts praying, he dips his hands into a pan of water and then holds his fingers pointed over the area to be operated on.

Then as if going into a semi-trance, he begins his work by probing the surfaces of the affected area with the tips of his fingers.

I could notice that his "power hand" is the right hand, while the left hand is only doing auxiliary assistance.

I could also notice that he does a lot of concentrating while performing.

It is the right hand that does all the pulling and lashing out of whatever there is to be removed.

As his fingers dig deeper into the open "wound" and the blood begins to spurt out of the opening, his assisant or assistants wipe out the blood and clean the aera around the "wound" with prepared pieces of cotton.

After being sure that he has already removed whatever there is to be removed from the affected area, he puts some coloured water (greenish) on the area, and then raises his right hand above his head with some kind of mantra, and then let his right hand pass over the "wound" as if to 'zip' it closed.

When the wound is already closed he applies some alcohol over the area that has now appeared scarless.

Depending upon the "complexity" of the cases involved, the entire operation normally takes only a few seconds or a few minutes.

The patient does not feel pain and although he is instructed as to what not to eat and how to conduct his life after the operation, there are supposed to be no post-operation effects.

Lito Fausto then washes off the blood from his hands with water and wipes them off with a piece of cloth, a ready towel, or even with the tips of his shirt sometimes.

Observers are left with the questions:

1. How does he do it- by what power does he perform his "miracles"?

2. Why is there no pain?

3. Why is there no wound, even if there is bleeding and what appears to be some kind of opening?

4. Why is there no scar?

5. Why are there no post-operational effects?

Mario Garcia seeks for an explanation in "Kundalini-like forces", symbolized by the occult symbol of the Caduceus, the "staff" of Hermes with its intertwined "snakes" representing the Yogic Channels of the Ida and Pingala.

On his question by what power he did his healing, Lito answered: "I heal by the power of the Holy Spirit"

On the question "Do you have an Abyan (guide), he answered: "Yes, he is St.Martin de Porres" (a Catholic healer Saint)

All the religious paraphernalia, to be expected in a Catholic Country , are there.

But Lito is no ordinary faith Healer, who is "laying on hands".

Faith in him, or God or the Church is no prerequisite to be operated on in this incredible bare handed fashion.

An interesting detail: a video recording of the operation, taken by a Doctor of Law, Dr. Emil Benitez, now resident in Chicago, turned out to be all in negative.

An Engineer, Delfin Lesna, observed him performing a cataract operation.

He just removed the whole eyeball out of the eyesocket, wash it with his medicine, wipe it off with the tips of his fingers, as if wiping off a speck from a piece of unstained glass and then put it back again inside the eye-socket. "Fantastic, fantastic", was his breathless comment.

Challenged if he would be willing to do his operations under the watchful eye of medical doctors in a big Cebu hospital, Lito Fausto said : "Sure, of course."

But medical officialdom does not want to know about it, and neither does the Church. These manifestations of an unknown power at work make them profoundly uncomfortable.
